Position Overview
The Core Fitness Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, effective, and motivating workouts that focus on strengthening the core muscles, improving stability, posture, and functional movement. The instructor creates an engaging environment that supports participants of all levels in building a stronger, healthier body.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Class Facilitation
- Lead group core fitness classes using a variety of exercises targeting the abdominals, obliques, lower back, hips, and pelvic floor.
- Demonstrate movements with clear, precise cues and proper technique.
- Offer modifications and progressions for different fitness levels and physical abilities.
- Ensure proper alignment and posture throughout exercises to prevent injuries.
- Incorporate stretching, mobility, and cool-down exercises for balanced training.
Program Planning & Class Design
- Develop structured class sequences focused on core strength, stability, balance, and functional movement.
- Use a mix of equipment (mats, bands, light weights, stability balls, sliders) or bodyweight training.
- Keep classes dynamic and varied to maintain participant engagement.
- Adjust workouts based on class goals, skill levels, or specific program themes.
Safety & Professional Standards
- Monitor participants for safe form and technique, providing corrective guidance as needed.
- Maintain an organized and safe training environment.
- Follow all facility safety guidelines and report any incidents promptly.
- Stay informed on current fitness trends, core training methods, and best practices.
Participant Engagement & Support
- Foster a motivating and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
- Encourage consistency, confidence, and proper body awareness.
- Provide constructive feedback and celebrate progress.
- Communicate clearly about exercises, breathing, and alignment.
Qualifications
Required
- Certified Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer (ACE, NASM, CanFitPro, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of core anatomy, functional training, and safe exercise progression.
- Experience teaching group fitness or training clients one-on-one.
- Excellent communication and motivational skills.
Preferred
- Additional certifications in Pilates, functional movement, mobility training, or corrective exercise.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience working with diverse populations (beginners, athletes, seniors, postpartum clients).
